Uganda Partnership (UP) is a Calgary-based grassroots organization working in partnership with communities in Uganda to empower individuals and foster sustainable change.  Working directly with members of the community UP facilitates projects that are determined by the beneficiary’s which promotes responsibility and a commitment to successful outcomes.

UP is working on projects that include HIV/AIDS groups that provide income to widows and their families and help provide access to treatment, granting group loans to widows to provide housing or to improve their income generation capabilities and assisting children in paying for their yearly school fees.

Lindsay Scoville, Vice President of UP, is heading back to Africa on February 5, 2010 to continue her work with widowed mothers and orphans, and just like last year she’s looking to take as much with her as possible.

Clothing - for any ages, but really need for children aged 5-12. Dark coloured shirts, skirts past the knee, long sleeved shirts, boy’s pants, boy’s shorts, summer dresses past the knees, light-weight wind breaker jackets.  No jeans please, as they are not worn in their culture.

Cash donations - always appreciated and make it possible to purchase much needed items for the children and families. 

All cash donations will be used for purchasing items in Uganda such as:

Jerry cans for orphans and families to obtain and/or keep clean drinking water ($1.76 CDN)

Blankets for children to stay warm on cold nights ($10.16 CDN)

Vitamins as many of the children are malnourished and lack the nutrients needed for proper growth (approx. $14.00 a year per child)

Mosquito nets to keep the children from contracting malaria ($3.53)
