Calgary hosts PechaKucha Night #3 - Rebuild

PechaKucha Nights were started in 2003 by Klein Dytham as a forum for architects and developers to showcase their works and designs in a public setting.  The success of the PechaKucha night can be reflected in the numbers – it now takes place in 280 cities spanning the globe.  The format for these events is a very simple one - each speaker presentation consists of 20 slides and 20 seconds per slide.  Calgary Arts and Development will be hosting a number of PechaKucha Nights in Calgary over the next year.

The topic for Calgary’s 3rd PechaKucha Night to be held on February 20th, 2010 is Rebuild, more specifically rebuild Haiti.  Organized by the PechaKucha network in partnership with Architecture for Humanity this theme is going to be reflected in all 280 cities on the same night “Helping Haiti 20 seconds at a time”.  The event is set to kick off in Tokyo and then make its way East one presentation after the other, each of which will be streamed live online.

Calgary’s event will take place on Saturday, Feb 20th, 2010 at 7:00pm at the ConocoPhillips Theatre, Glenbow Museum at 130 – 9th Avenue SE.  Speakers include individual architects, planners and organizers that are working in disaster relief and rebuilding efforts around the world.

Tickets are available for a donation of $20 and they can be purchased at the door or ordered online at CalgaryCulture.com/PKNForHaiti.  All proceeds from this event will go to Architecture for Humanity and the efforts at rebuilding in Haiti.
